About

We begin at the beginning.

The name is pronounced “jo-AHN”. It’s French, several generations removed.

I’m from New Jersey, then Southern California, and now Ohio. Three different states in very different parts of the country. Factor in that I’m half Colombian and the oldest of five kids. My worldview is informed by The Cold War, I Love Lucy, 80s cartoons, The Muppets, and Star Wars and Star Trek. But the glue that holds all of this diverse craziness together is, and always has been, art.

Art has been a constant in my life since the beginning. It has been a comfort and, at times, a source of frustration. It has been a part of my worst defeats and some of my greatest triumphs.

Given all of this, what has emerged is a music loving, plastic model constructing, scifi watching, paranormal seeking, lego building, band dad, brother, son, uncle, mechanic, geologist, astronomer, paleontologist, starship engineer, mechwarrior, xenoarchaeologist, graphic designer, illustrator with a talent for drawing maps, charts, spacecraft and the detritus of the universe.

So if I seem a little weird, you see, I come by it naturally.

My education is in graphic design and I have worked in educational publishing emphasizing in maps and charts of scientific subjects and processes. I am proud to have also received recognition for my science fiction art.
